This Morning Routine Will Improve Your Mood

3 Easy tips to a better morning.

First thing first,  Keep it Simple! Let’s first prepare for your morning.  At night, a few hours before bed, create the energy of expectancy. When you wake up, you WILL have a fantastic day! Start by rearranging your room; a deep clean is ideal, maybe even a new pillow aromatherapy spray, but let’s say you’re like me, and your “it is what it is' ' is an empowering surrender versus procrastination and self-defeating emotion. You literally can sometimes do the bare minimum. So do that. If you feel safe enough, sleep with your bedroom curtains and blinds open with the intention of the natural sunlight waking you up. Google the benefits of sunlight; it generates the production of vitamin D, supports bone health, lowers blood pressure, prevents disease, and promotes good mental health. Oh, what’s that you say google, good mental health?! Google said it; I didn’t. Well, I did, but you get the point. Get some sun!

Have your clothes already out and ready to go. Shoes, socks, belt, ironed shirt if you’re into that, and no judgment if you’re not! Another great thing to do at night is place your house slippers on “your side of the bed.” wink wink.! And while you’re shopping for some, remind yourself why you’re buying them. Be intentional. Also, place your face cleansing items on the bathroom counter, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash near it.  Yes, darling, gargle and feel the burn. Sometimes I hum the tune “buuurrrrn baby burn,” and I feel so fresh after. The key to a great morning is a great night. Watch what you eat, what you watch, what you hear, who you’re talking to, the energy you're exchanging, and try to go to bed a bit earlier than usual, if you can. I get it.

  1. Get up a little earlier than usual. It’s best for me if I’m up before the house. Set your alarm a few minutes early and enjoy the silence. Groom yourself, fill your cup and then pour into your family. Even if it’s 10-15 minutes before. I'm telling you no lies. Listen to nothing, no kids, no spouse, not even the dog: nothing, just free time. Imagine waking up to a foot to the eye or a little person screaming, wake up, mommy. Yup. It’s like that sometimes. I’m sure you can relate.

  2. Take a few moments to feel the fabric of the cozy slippers comforting you.  Don’t move. Be still and sit there for a moment of gratitude. You’ll be surprised how you might respond to the stillness. Before you go for your morning pee, use that time to express gratitude. Mention as much as you can think of. I’ll go. First, I’m thankful for God, time, for the activity of my limbs, sharing oxygen with my children, my home, car, self-love, peace, electricity, organic food, tissue paper, water, my heated blanket that I’m wrapped in as I type this while my 2 yr old finally closes his eyes. If you give yourself enough quiet time, you would be surprised how, just like I did, you too will spiral with more and more gratitude. My God, the favor on my life. Woooo! I can’t scream; it’s very late, so I just typed it.

  3. Fill your cup. Groom yourself, dress and do it while you have your 3rd pair of AirPods in one of your ears cause I know you lost or damaged the pairs before. Listen to what gets you going, If it’s motivation videos on YouTube, gospel, rock music, trap music, or one of my fav, Caribbean music. What can I say? I’m an island gal… mixed with a bit of country, so I’m constantly switching it up. Try it. Some even like comedy in the morning. Whatever works for who? YOU!

Again, this is just the beginning. Once you create a system, you can become more advanced and get up in the weeeeee hours of the morning like me. 3:30am. No lie. That early. I feel like I’m on top of the world, waking up and spending all of those precious and productive hours with no one but God and me. Sometimes, that 3:30 am might be 10 minutes before my little people are up, but guess who cup gets filled first? You guessed it right. Yours truly. Me! You too can enjoy long medications, cleaning, working out, reading, watching your favorite, whatever; it’s absolutely up to you what you do with free hours. Try it, and let me know how it worked out for you. I want to hear about it.

There are so many ways to create a beautiful and realistic morning routine.

Bonus- If you are experiencing any attention, anxiety, and sleep disorders, or even going through a rough break-up, dealing with codependency, or grief, a weighted blanket has been highly effective. It originates from a type of therapy called pressure stimulation. When we give birth, the first thing we do is swaddle our little ones, which relaxes the nervous system. It’s nothing new; It’s just not talked about very often. According to Sleep Health Solutions, 68% of individuals reported a decrease in anxiety. Some use it throughout the day. Give it a try. Weighted blanket on Amazon. It’s also a great Christmas gift. Thank me later.

I love you, and I mean that.
